Released on December 30, 2010, Virtual Villagers 5: New Believers is set on the island of Isola but in a village of masked "heathens" that are native to the island. Explorers from the villages from the previous installation, The Tree of Life, are captured by the "heathens" and deal with life among these hostile, superstitious people. By performing helpful tasks in the village of their captors, such as healing the sick, the explorers try to convert the "heathens"; other tasks such as getting firewood or food are complicated by the "heathens" chasing the explorers away from resources, thus requiring ingenious solutions and the occasional intervention from the player, "God".
